What are the benefits of roof cleaning?

Roof moss and other bio growth not only makes a property less attractive, but will in time cause damage to roof tiles as it grows and expands. Moss can hold a lot of water which means your roof is bearing a lot of uneccesary weight and as that water freezes and expands in cold weather, this can lift and crack roof tiles. Moss build up also starts to fall and fill your gutters, cause blockages, split seals in the gutters and cause water overflow which can lead to damp issues in the walls of your property.

Did you know the common cause of a stained and dirty patio, path and drive is all to do with the biofilm and moss on a roof.

See below for 5 ways as to why a roof clean is one of the most overlooked things on your home.

How We clean a roof?

Before starting any work, we make sure to complete a Roof Assessment on your property to best ascertain your property's individual requirements for best access, roof condition and drainage.

Where appropriate, we will set up a scaffold tower and establish other health and safety precautions that may be needed. Once that is completed we will commence work using specialised tools to safely and carefully remove moss off the roof tiles.

As Roof cleaning specialists we use a 2 phase clean for your roof

1st - we use steam and low pressure to clean the moss and other biofilms from your roof. This method alone will transform your roof immediately from dull and dirty to clean and looking like a new roof.

(If there is an excessive amount of moss, we will scrape off as much as possible first)

2nd - I consider this as the important phase of the clean, this is the treatment phase. We use a HSE compliant biocide which kills off the spores and biofilm on your roof. The biocide we apply remains active on your roof tiles for up to 18 months, regardless of how much it rains!

(Without treatment your roof will be dirty and mossy again within 12 - 18 months)

The HSE approved biocide treatment will be carefully applied and brushed into the roof tiles

Our roof cleans is a comprehensive clean, we include full gutter clean and downpipe check too. A complete fascia and sofitt clean too. The floor and surrounding areas will be cleaned and cleared of moss also. This treatment will then continue to protect the tiles from further moss growth.

We are City & Guilds certified and use safe, recommended methods and treatments to ensure we provide the best service for you.

Frequently asked Questions

Question - Do you step on our roof?

Answer - No, we will never step on your roof. Doing this is not safe or best practice. We use a scaffold tower to comply with working at height laws and use a long specially made carbon fibre pole to reach all areas of your roof. By using a scaffold tower we reduce risk to breaking the tiles or cracking the tiles which will cause you long term damage and problems in the future.

The customer is liable by law for the safety of the contractor you employ, its vital that you make sure they have the correct qualifications, insurance and work safely and use best practice.

Question - Do you use high pressure jet washing to clean the tiles?

Answer - No, high powered jet washing of roofs should never happen. We use low pressure and steam to safely and effectively remove moss and other biofilms

Question - Will the steam and low pressure washing damage our tiles or wash off the oils?

Answer - No this a safe way to remove moss. Marley and Redland tiles confirm this. Most tiles we have cleaned are 20+ years old, the biofilm and moss that have formed on the tile would have broken down the oils etc on the tile already. The treatment we apply after the roof clean will actually protect your tiles, especially if a maintenance clean is carried out routinely.

Question - Will the water leak under the tiles?

Answer - No absolutely not, your roof doesn't leak when it rains, therefore it won't leak during the cleaning process.

Question - Are you insured?

Answer - Yes we take this seriously and we have industry specific insurance and a public liability of up to £5 Million

Question - Will my property get dirty?

Answer - It depends on how mossy your roof is, but yes it will. All care and attention will be taken to clean up as best as possible and leave your premises clean and tidy from the mess made during the clean.

Did you know, Your roof is one of the most important parts of your home, but it's also one of the most neglected.

Over time, dirt, debris, and algae can accumulate on your roof. Moss can build up on, under and in between the tiles. This reduces your roofs lifespan and making it look unsightly. That's why it's so important to have your roof cleaned by a professional service. Here's a few reasons why:

1. Extends Roof Lifespan: Regular roof cleaning can help extend the lifespan of your roof by removing debris, moss, algae, and other contaminants that can cause damage over time. By preventing the buildup of these harmful elements, you can protect the structural integrity of your roof and avoid costly repairs or premature replacement.

2. Prevents Damage and Leaks: Moss, algae, and debris can trap moisture on your roof's surface, leading to the deterioration of shingles, tiles, or other roofing materials. Cleaning your roof helps to eliminate these moisture-trapping elements, reducing the risk of leaks, water damage, and the potential for mold growth inside your home.

3. Curb Appeal: The appearance of your roof significantly contributes to your home's overall curb appeal. A clean roof enhances the visual appeal of your property, giving it a fresh and well-maintained look. Whether you plan to sell your home or simply take pride in its appearance, a clean roof can make a significant difference in its overall aesthetics.

4. Ensures Insurance Compliance: Some insurance policies require homeowners to maintain their roofs regularly to ensure coverage in the event of damage or accidents. By getting your roof cleaned, you meet the maintenance requirements specified by your insurance policy, ensuring that you remain compliant and eligible for coverage when you need it most.

5. Protect your investment: A clean roof not only looks better, but it also protects your home from damage caused by mold, mildew, and other organic growths. By removing these harmful substances, you can extend the lifespan of your roof and protect your home's value. The algae build up on your render or algae and/or black spot on your patio and drive will be caused by the Moss, Lichen and Algae build up on your roof. These are all biofilms and the spores spread to the ground when it rains. Eliminate this with a Roof Clean and Treatment.
